Create a company

When to use this

  • You need a company you can select on other records (for example: a customer, supplier, partner, or contractor).
  • You’re onboarding a new customer or supplier and want their company on file before adding contacts or sites.

What you need first

  • You must be signed in to the correct account.
  • Your account must have the People module enabled. If it is not enabled, company creation is blocked.

Steps

1. Start creating a company from the Companies list, or from any company picker that offers Create Company. 2. Enter the Name (required).

3. (Optional) Enter a Website. 4. (Optional) Choose one or more Categories to help you filter and group companies. 5. Choose Create.

  • The system does not stop you creating two companies with the same name. Use a name your team will recognize.

What happens next

  • The company is saved immediately and appears in your companies list and company pickers.
  • If you chose categories, the company will show under those category filters.
  • If you don’t see the new company right away, refresh the page and try again.

If it goes wrong

  • If you see an error that the People module is not enabled, you cannot create companies in this account until an admin enables it.
  • If the form says the name is required, enter a name (not just spaces) and try again.
  • If you see an “Unknown company categories” error, clear the category selection and try again.
