Start a task on a job

Start task travel or on-task work from a field job, including the cases where the system makes you start the main job first.

Start a task on a job

When to use this

Use this when a job has operational tasks and you need to start travel or on-site work for one specific task.

What you need first

  • The task is visible on the job.
  • The job is assigned to your team.

Steps

1. Open the job in My Work. 2. Find the task in the operational task list. 3. Choose Start. 4. If needed, start task travel first. 5. When you are ready to begin on-site task work, continue to Start Task. 6. Add before photos if they help show the task starting condition, then confirm the start.

What happens next

  • The task moves into an in-progress state.
  • Task travel is tracked separately from on-task work.
  • If another task on the same job is already active, the system pauses that active task before starting this one.
  • If the main job has not been started yet, the system sends you into the main job start flow first.

If it goes wrong

  • If the system tells you to start the job first, complete [Start a job (travel + on-site start)](./start-a-job.md) and then return to the task.
  • If the task says it is already active, check whether it is already running or paused instead of starting it again.
  • If the job is cancelled or archived, stop and ask the office to confirm whether that task should still be worked.
