Why you can’t start a job

Work through the common reasons start actions fail so you can recover safely without creating duplicate starts or bad timing records.

Why you can’t start a job

Exact failure state

You can see the job, but the start action does not work or the system shows that the job is already started or otherwise unavailable.

What it means

The job may already be in progress, paused, completed, or not in a startable state for your current context.

Immediate fix

1. Re-open the job and check whether it already shows as started or paused. 2. If it is paused, resume it instead of starting it again. 3. If it already started on another device, stop and confirm which device or person is holding the live state. 4. If the office changed the plan recently, refresh before trying again.

When to escalate

  • Escalate to the office when the job state is wrong for the work that is actually happening on site.
  • Escalate immediately if starting again would create false timing or duplicate execution records.
